Code on Social Security (Gujarat) Amendment Rules 2026
The Gujarat Government has issued Amendment Rules to the state’s Code on Social Security Rules, revising the 2023 framework to further strengthen worker welfare and implementation of the Social Security Code, 2020, in the state.

Pro-Rated Gratuity for Fixed-Term Workers
— Employees on fixed-term contracts become eligible to receive gratuity on a pro-rated basis after completion of one year of continuous service, aligning with provisions aimed at enhancing social security coverage.
Enhanced Fatal Accident Support
— In the event of a fatal workplace accident, employers are required to deposit a specified minimum amount for funeral and transport expenses (e.g., within 48 hours), in addition to standard statutory compensation.
Expanded Welfare Board Responsibilities
— State welfare boards, such as the Building Workers Welfare Board and the Unorganized Workers’ Social Security Board, have extended roles, including facilitating education schemes, insurance premium payments, and major medical support for beneficiaries.
Governance and Implementation Enhancements
— The draft rules propose improved governance mechanisms, more frequent board meetings, and stronger procedures to oversee implementation of welfare schemes.
