Employers in Chhattisgarh should review October payroll against the revised minimum wages applicable from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. The Office of the Labour Commissioner, Chhattisgarh, has issued notifications dated 8 October 2026, updating Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) and the resulting minimum wage totals.
For the 45 general scheduled employments, the notification bearing reference 2026/2661 increases monthly VDA from ₹3,082.00 to ₹3,214.48—an increase of ₹132.48 per month. The basic wage rates remain unchanged in the comparative schedule.
The effective date is 1 October 2026, although the notification was issued on 8 October.
Revised minimum wages for 45 general scheduled employments
The following figures reproduce the monthly totals and rounded daily rates printed in Schedule “ख”. Monthly totals include basic wages plus VDA.
Skill category | Zone | Total per month (₹) | Total per day (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
Unskilled | A | 11,534.48 | 444 |
Unskilled | B | 11,274.48 | 434 |
Unskilled | C | 11,014.48 | 424 |
Semi-skilled | A | 12,184.48 | 469 |
Semi-skilled | B | 11,924.48 | 459 |
Semi-skilled | C | 11,664.48 | 449 |
Skilled | A | 12,964.48 | 499 |
Skilled | B | 12,704.48 | 489 |
Skilled | C | 12,444.48 | 479 |
Highly skilled | A | 13,744.48 | 529 |
Highly skilled | B | 13,484.48 | 519 |
Highly skilled | C | 13,224.48 | 509 |
These scheduled employments include shops and commercial establishments, hotels and restaurants, security services, construction, engineering, hospitals, educational institutions and various manufacturing activities. Employers should check the complete notified list before selecting the applicable schedule.
Which zone applies?
The notification defines zones using location and establishment criteria:
Zone A: Raipur, Durg, Bhilai, Bhilai-Charoda and Birgaon municipal corporation areas, including areas extending 16 km from their boundaries; all industrial areas and industrial development centres; the specified Atal Nagar development authority area; and factories licensed for 300 or more workers.
Zone B: Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Chirmiri and Dhamtari municipal corporation areas, including areas extending 8 km from their boundaries.
Zone C: Areas outside Zones A and B.
A factory’s zone therefore requires checking the establishment criteria as well as its address.
What does this mean for payroll?
For example, the notified monthly minimum for an unskilled Zone A worker changes as follows:
Component | April–September 2026 (₹) | October 2026–March 2027 (₹) |
|---|---|---|
Basic wages | 8,320.00 | 8,320.00 |
VDA | 3,082.00 | 3,214.48 |
Total | 11,402.00 | 11,534.48 |
Where the employee was receiving the earlier minimum, the revised monthly requirement increases by ₹132.48.
The notification also explains that higher existing wages must not be reduced because of the revision. Where prevailing wages exceed the notified basic-plus-VDA total, its compliance explanation recognises that position; where the payable total falls short, the worker is entitled to the difference.
Use the correct schedule and calculation basis
For these general scheduled employments, the explanatory provisions prescribe a 26-day divisor when calculating one day’s wages from the notified monthly wage in the circumstances stated. The daily totals in the table are rounded as published, so multiplying a rounded daily figure by 26 may not reproduce the monthly figure exactly.
The booklet separately provides rates for government daily-rated workers, whose daily figures differ from the general employment schedule.
Agriculture also has a separate schedule. For an unskilled agricultural worker, the revised total is ₹9,415 per month, comprising basic wages of ₹6,900 and VDA of ₹2,515, with a published daily total of ₹314. Separate schedules are provided for agarbatti and tobacco/bidi employment.
