The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) has declared Friday, 11 September 2026, as a holiday in view of the BRICS Summit and the arrangements connected therewith.
As per the notification issued by the General Administration Department (Co-ordination Branch), Delhi Secretariat, the holiday will apply to all Government Offices, Autonomous Bodies and Public Sector Undertakings under the Government of NCT of Delhi.
Applicability
The holiday on 11 September 2026 will apply to:
Government Offices under the Government of NCT of Delhi
Autonomous Bodies under the Government of NCT of Delhi
Public Sector Undertakings under the Government of NCT of Delhi
The notification has been issued by order and in the name of the Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Reason for the Holiday
The holiday has been declared specifically in view of the BRICS Summit and the administrative and security arrangements connected with the event. The notification has also been circulated to various Government departments, public authorities, universities, boards and other institutions for information and necessary action.
Important Clarification for Private Establishments
The notification specifically covers Government Offices, Autonomous Bodies and Public Sector Undertakings under the Government of NCT of Delhi.
It does not expressly state that 11 September 2026 is a mandatory holiday for all private shops, commercial establishments, factories or other private-sector establishments in Delhi.
Accordingly, private employers should examine their existing holiday list and any separate directions, orders or notifications that may be issued by the competent Labour Department or other authority.
Compliance Impact
Employers, HR teams and compliance professionals should note that 11 September 2026 has been officially declared as a holiday for the GNCTD Government offices and specified public bodies covered by the notification.
Private-sector establishments should not automatically treat the date as a mandatory statutory holiday solely on the basis of this notification unless a separate applicable direction is issued.
