Delhi Sets Out a Clear Process to Correct Errors in Contractor Licence Applications

Published: Oct 7, 2026Effective: Oct 7, 2026

A typing mistake or an incorrect entry in an online application can lead to repeated visits, correspondence and delays. For contractors applying for renewal or amendment of their licences in Delhi, the Labour Department has now laid down a clear procedure for getting genuine errors corrected.

Through its circular dated 7 October 2026, the Labour Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for correction requests relating to the Renewal/Amendment of Licence for Contractor service under the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970, on the e-District portal.

The circular bears reference F. No. SAIT/Lab/e-District/2020/718–720.

Which errors can be corrected?

The SOP is intended to address inadvertent clerical, typographical and data-entry errors. The applicant must support the requested correction with relevant documents, and the available records should establish that the mistake was genuine.

However, this process cannot be used to introduce a new contract, change the identity of the contractor or principal employer, alter the nature of the contract, or make any other unauthorised substantive change.

Only the specific field approved for correction can be updated.

What does the applicant need to do?

On noticing an error, the applicant should submit a written hardcopy request to the concerned District In-charge—Joint Labour Commissioner or Deputy Labour Commissioner—along with supporting documents.

The request must clearly show:

  • The incorrect information currently appearing in the application.

  • The correct information that should replace it.

  • Documentary evidence supporting the proposed correction.

A simple comparison of the “existing entry” and “correct entry” can help the officer understand the request quickly. Applicants should approach the District Office at the earliest after identifying the mistake.

How will the Department process the request?

The SOP assigns responsibility and timelines at each stage:

Stage

Responsibility

Timeline

Scrutinise the application, correction request and supporting records

Concerned JLC/DLC

2 working days

Forward the complete verified case with a specific recommendation through e-office

Concerned JLC/DLC

2 working days

Examine the case, seek clarification or further verification where necessary, and approve or reject the correction

Additional Labour Commissioner/Designated Officer

5 working days

Authorise rectification after approval

IT Branch

3 working days

Correct the approved field and verify the update

Concerned JLC/DLC

2 working days

These departmental timelines add up to 14 working days. Applicants should understand this as the total of the prescribed stages. The SOP does not provide for automatic approval on expiry of this period or separately explain how additional document requests affect the overall processing time.

What should contractors and compliance teams keep in mind?

A clear request backed by matching records will help the Department examine the matter. Before submitting it, check the original application carefully and identify exactly what needs correction.

As a practical measure, retain a copy of the request, supporting documents and acknowledgement. After rectification, verify that the approved entry has been updated correctly on the portal.

For principal employers and compliance teams coordinating contractor licences, this is also a useful reminder to review application details before submission. The correction route addresses genuine mistakes; it does not authorise changes to the underlying contractual arrangement.

The circular directs all concerned officers to follow the SOP and requires District In-charges to properly scrutinise and verify each case before forwarding it for approval.
