What does this mean in practice?
Although the notification is dated October 2026, it expressly operates from 8 May 2026. Employers and HR teams should therefore review relevant funeral-expense claims relating to the period from that date and assist eligible claimants in approaching ESIC.
Where a claim has already been settled at ₹15,000, the claimant should seek clarification from the concerned ESIC Branch Office about the additional amount. This notification does not separately prescribe a procedure for reopening settled claims or paying the difference.
Action points for employers and consultants:
Update employee-benefit guidance to reflect the revised ₹20,000 amount.
Inform HR teams and affected families about the effective date.
Review pending claims and relevant claims already settled since 8 May 2026.
Coordinate with ESIC for claim documentation and any differential-payment process.
