Rajasthan has notified the Code on Wages (Rajasthan) Rules, 2026 through Notification S.O. 40 dated 12 August 2026, issued by the Labour Department, Government of Rajasthan. The Rules were published in the Rajasthan Gazette Extraordinary on the same date and have come into force with effect from 12 August 2026.

The final Rules follow the draft published on 13 January 2026, which had invited objections and suggestions from stakeholders for 45 days.

Key Highlights

  • The Rules supersede seven existing Rajasthan wage-related rules, including the Rajasthan Payment of Wages Rules, 1961 and Rajasthan Minimum Wages Rules, 1959.

  • Minimum wages will be determined using prescribed standards covering 2,700 calories per person per day, 66 metres of cloth per family per year, housing, fuel, education and other essential needs.

  • Daily wage divided by 8 determines the hourly rate, while the daily rate multiplied by 26 determines the monthly rate.

  • Occupations are classified as Unskilled, Semi-Skilled, Skilled and Highly Skilled.

  • Working hours are capped at 48 hours per week.

  • Employees cannot work for more than 5 continuous hours without a minimum 30-minute rest interval.

  • Dearness Allowance will be revised twice a year, on 1 April and 1 October, based on the applicable Labour Bureau price index.

  • Wage deductions cannot exceed 50% of wages in a wage period.

  • Employers must maintain prescribed registers, including the Employee Register, Wages & Deductions Register and Attendance-cum-Muster Roll.

  • Wage slips are mandatory and must be issued on or before the date of wage payment.

  • The State Advisory Board will include employer, employee and independent representatives, with one-third women representation.

  • Eligible offences may be compounded in accordance with the Code and Rules.

Employers in Rajasthan should now review their salary structures, minimum wage mapping, working hours, deductions, wage slips and statutory registers to ensure compliance from 12 August 2026.
