The Government of West Bengal has issued a notification permitting shops and establishments registered under the West Bengal Shops & Establishments Act, 1963, and employing 20 or more persons to operate on a 24x7 basis on all days of the year for a period of 3 years from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. However, this permission is subject to strict compliance with conditions relating to weekly holidays, appointment letters, overtime limits, display of employee details, transport arrangements for women employees, basic welfare facilities, and constitution of an Internal Complaints Committee under the POSH Act, 2013. Employers intending to operate 24x7 must ensure proper documentation, shift planning, overtime control, employee safety, and display requirements to avoid penal action or cancellation of permission.
