The Gujarat Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1953
Gujarat Labour Welfare Fund Act – Brief Overview The Gujarat Labour Welfare Fund Act provides for the establishment of a Labour Welfare Fund for shops and commercial establishments in Gujarat. The fund is used for welfare activities and includes amounts such as unpaid wages, unclaimed bonus, gratuity, fines, and employer–employee contributions. Applicability: Applicable to shops and commercial establishments employing 10 or more employees, under the supervision of the Labour Commissioner / Gujarat Labour Welfare Board. Key Compliance: Employee contribution is ₹6, and employer contribution is double the employee contribution, payable half-yearly. The contribution must be paid online by 30th June and 31st December. Returns & Records: Half-yearly returns are to be filed by 15th July and 15th January. Employers must maintain records of wages, deductions, fines, and related registers. Penalty: Non-compliance may attract interest, fines, and other penalties as prescribed.
